The present five-star hotel project was part of a more ambitious development projected for the Eastside area (Gibraltar) designed by Ayaltointegral s.l for Acrock l.td wand West Incorporated management ltd. The project seeks to define the southeastern end of the plot using a high pedestrian walkway, permeable to the beach, for defining the boundary with the sand.

At the same time, we place an iconic building, as requested by the hotel´s brand operator, with clear nautical references of a lighthouse in this limit.

THE HOTEL

The hotel fits into the rectangular plot, adopting a kind of topography that is represented by parallel planes that reflect the different levels of the building’s program.

These planes levitate on top of the stony podium that contains the parking at the time it generates private spaces and views on the sea and the promenade for the hotel customers.

The curved forms and the different pavings define the way we approach the building in addition to generating the enclosures and areas of the program of the building, including a parking

area, pool area and garden terraces.

The construction surface is reduced in height looking for a greater slender-ness as well as an adaptation to the uses and necessities of the developer.

These artificial topography sections (reminiscent of the rock) are reflected in a series of strips formed from matt white glass (concealing the wrought,balustrade and suspended ceiling) that

define the uses in their projection.

The building seeks to prolong the spaces in the outdoor areas that allow enjoying the climate and the views of the sea on terraces that both for its curved shapes, and for its finishes (tropical wood)link with our memories, imagery and nautical experiences. Reminding the feeling of being on a ship or on a cruise.

However, from the beach or from the sea, the designer’s intention is to recall the image of a lighthouse on a boardwalk.

This image is reinforced with the perimeter lighting of LEDs embedded in the false ceiling of each floor.

This changing lighting generates a reference both maritime and from the beach.

In an attempt of generating a changing experience, for the observer, depending on his point of view as the building itself throughout the day we decided to turn each floor of the building ( each room has its own views) along its development.

We left some strips of translucent glass on the floor of the terrace, to improve the lighting of the rooms as well as to generate some games of lights and changing shadows throughout the day.

The objective is to generate a unique and representative building for its design that generates as a benchmark for the hotel typology. We also believe that a good

implementation in the place is essential, that you take advantage of the exceptional conditions of the site.
