Coling Island Gibraltar
Shortlisted
YEAR: June 2013 PROGRAM: Public Space SURFACE: 250 sqm CLIENT: Government of Gibraltar VISUALIZATION: Xavier Ozores
This project is the result of the collaboration with the nautical engineering studio Nautilus S, l for the contest for the drafting of the small boat marina, promenade large vessel mooring
wharf in Ciling Island ,Gibraltar.
While Jose Maria Medina was in charge of managing the engineering part of the shelter dyke, we provide the architectural design o,f this public space.
Our proposal sought to integrate this space as an extension of the urban space (so necessary in Gibraltar) for the use and enjoyment of visitors, unaware of the nautical activities, to walk along enjoying the strait´s views.
Our proposal tries to distinguish uses and circulations, with different pavements,as well as include resting areas all over the itinerary, covered with the metallic trellis, used as a viewpoint.
Special care has been taken in the selection of the urban furniture (some designed for the project) as well as the design of access control building, the constructive details and the choice of materials for their future execution.
The proposal was presented in the design & build modality with the construction company Grup Heracles, being awarded the second position
